Does this thing need words? Does the world actually need this? I'm sure this guitar is just ahead of the curve waiting for the next glam revival.

Gary Moore – Video

Here is a great video of one of my idol's, Mr. Gary Moore, showing off some great licks, and answering a few questions. Three things jump out at me in this video clip.

  • His use of the volume control is astounding. More people need to realise how much tonal variation is available without having to resort to pedals and effects all the time.
  • He hardly uses his pinky. That makes me feel so much better because my pinkie is anaemic.
  • His fast runs all tend to be in the one position. There are not a lot of rippping, neck climbing runs. Most of the fast stuff is firmly planted in one spot on the neck.

It reminded me that I had missed his latest album, so I've gone out and grabbed it. I'll review it shortly.

I didn't get a chance to post this the other day, but you knew there was no way I would miss this. Yet another Limited Edition Goldtop on it's way, this time featuring my main man Slash. Maybe I should name this site SlashToyBox... ooh that sounds wrong.

Anyway, here is the lowdown:

  • 2 volume and 2 tone controls

Gibson:

  • Slash neck profile

The Gibson is limited to 1000 guitars, and the Epiphone is not as limited at 2000.

If you go to the Epiphone website there is a contest where you can win the guitar, a hat, and a special certificate. Needless to say I have already entered.

The Folding ‘Air’ Guitar

Looking for a truely portable guitar. How about one that actually comes apart so yuo can carry it around in a small bag? Welcome to the Adirondack Aria Sinsonido Travel Guitar.

Basically a neck attached to a slim body, it has rubber coated aluminum frame that you connect to get the "feel" of a guitar whilst playing.

Having no body as such, it does need to be plugged into some sort of output device so you can hear it, but it sounds suprising good. The guitar features a 9 volt battery, preamp and two stereo condenser microphones built into the unit to provide the require sound source for amplification. PLug in your headphones, or plug into a little boom box and your on your way. Adirondack offers three models of this latest version: steel string, nylon string, and nylon string with a cutaway design.

Check out the site here.

Moog makes a guitar that goes “eeeeeeeee” forever!

This is showing up on all my regular reads lately, both guitar and tech/gizmo sites. This is the new Moog guitar. It feature some amazing technology that gives you the ability to either have unlimited sustain, or to mute the strings automatically, or a blend of the two. Thinking about the science of it, it's a guitar that has some very power pickups that I assume alter the magnetic field around the stings. So in essence you have an EBow built into your guitar, or the magnetic field is strong enough to stop the string from vibrating out (same as if you have your strings too close to the pick ups).

It's a brilliant piece of kit and you should check out the video above. Just a shame on the two drawbacks:

1. The price
2. the fact that to work properly it needs some special strings that are more easily manipulated by the pickups.

I'd love one though.
