Steve Vai Jemini Distortion Pedal

Steve Vai is an odd man. I mean, how many people come up with their own scale? So it's no surprise really when Steve decides to do a two person review of his new pedal with himself. Still, it's good to see he has a sense of humour, especially about himself. This new pedal of his I half like - the second distortion. I personally find the first tone he demo's to be to round and muddy, but that's me. What do you guys all think about it?

EDIT : i almost forgot to mention. How much does Vai remind you of Dr. Wilson in House? or is it just me?

Demeter Fuzzulator Video

I saw this over at GearTrap, one of my new favourite sites. This is a very nice sounding fuzz pedal. I've always associated fuzz pedals with over the top crazy tone, but this does some beautiful lower gain tones as well.

Behringer Trio Packs
My love of Behringer is well noted, so I am very pleased with these packs. Behringer have bundled their fabulous pedals into several packs as a jumping off point for musicians to get classic tones of various genres, and titled them the Trio Pedal Train. The packs are as follows:

METAL TRIO TPK985
Distortion, Multi-FX and Digital Delay Guitar Effects Package Including Cables

  • The SUPER METAL SM400 boasts brutal distortion, mind-blowing sustain and the sound of an overdriven stacked tube amp
  • The DIGITAL MULTI-FX FX600 features 24-bit high-resolution stereo effects such as Flanger, Chorus, Phaser, Delay, Tremolo and Pitch Shifter
  • The DIGITAL DELAY DD400 provides 24-bit high-resolution stereo delay/echo using RSM (Real Sound Modeling) for delay time up to 1.3 s

BLUES ROCK TRIO TPK987
Amp Modeling, Vibrato and Delay Guitar Effects Package Including Cables

  • The TUBE AMP MODELER TM300 comes with authentic modeling technology that lets you easily achieve the most sought-after tube amp sounds from clean, crunch to super-fat distortion
  • The ULTRA VIBRATO UV300 lets you experience classic and mind-bending, dimensional vibrato effects of the '60s and '70s
  • The DIGITAL DELAY DD400 provides 24-bit high-resolution stereo delay/echo using RSM (Real Sound Modeling) for delay time up to 1.3 s

BASS TRIO TPK988
Overdrive, Limiter enhancer and Chorus Effects Pedals for Bass Guitar Including Cables

  • The BASS OVERDRIVE BOD400 provides tube-like distortion and super fat tone, with Balance control to blend between overdriven and dry bass sound for maximum punch
  • The BASS LIMITER ENHANCER BLE100 smoothes out harsh volume peaks when using dynamic slaps or other playing styles
  • The BASS CHORUS BCH100 gives you super thick chorus with unbelievable stereo effect

KEYBOARD TRIO TPK989
Tremolo, Chorus and Digital Multi-FX Pedals for Keyboards Including Cables

  • The ULTRA TREMOLO UT100 delivers the classic, warm and mind-bending tremolo effects of vintage '60s amps
  • The ULTRA CHORUS UC200 gives you super-thick chorus with unbelievable stereo effect
  • The DIGITAL MULTI-FX FX600 features 24-bit high-resolution stereo effects including Flanger, Chorus, Phaser, Delay, Tremolo and Pitch Shifter

The packs come with all the cables as well. No word that i can see on pricing, but I'd guess in the vicinity of $120.

I think they are on to something here. Perhaps they should branch ut into other accessory packs as weel. here are a few of my suggestions:

  • Delta Blues : Pill bottle, tobacco and map to the crossroads.
  • Grunge : Fuzz distortion pedal, drug of choice and Courtney Love
  • Emo : Super tight distortion pedal, eyeliner, ticket to Mexico

Any other suggestions?

... well not quite, but Vox have announced a deal with Joe Satriani that will see them releasing pedals designed by the man himself. Not only will we see pedals that reproduce some of the signature tones of Satriani, he is helping them develop brand new pedals.

More news to come in a few months time.

Source Audio Hot Hand Range

Source Audio
The idea of this never sold me really. It's a wireless system that slips on your finger like a ring to control your floor effect unit. The original wah model came out a while ago and at the upcoming Winter NAMM the new range is being introduced.

These days, I'm almost sold.

Jump over to the site and check out the videos. this is where you see how useful the device is. As someone who does a lot of those types of hand movements when I'm playing anyway this would be quite a natural device for me to use.

I still think it's a bit gimmicky, but I guess the wah pedal was too when it first came out.
