I like Eastwood guitars. They are like the neighbour's quirky daughter, you'll never admit to it, but despite all her weirdness and awkwardness, you'd rerally love to play with it! I've been looking for a resonator, and this could possibly be the one.

Eastwood Guitars has started shipping the new Airline Folkstar Resonator guitar. This beautiful electric guitar was all the buzz at the Eastwood/Airline booth last month at NAMM in Anaheim California. The new Airline Folkstar Resonator is based off the early 60s model and in true Eastwood fashion it features many upgrades and improvements.

This chambered mahogany 24 3/4“ scale guitar features a biscuit resonator cone with a Piezo bridge pickup and a NY mini-humbucker neck pickup, which are controlled by a blend potentiometer. This smooth blending feature, combined with the volume and tone controls allows for unlimited sounds, which was unachievable on the non-electrified originals. The eye-catching Airline Folkstar is available in red or black and features the retro rubber body binding just like the Eastwood Airline Custom ’59 series. The bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard is set up with #12-52 bronze resonator strings, making this a “must have” guitar for both pro-touring and home recording players.

The Airline Folkstar is now shipping.

I'm sure Jack White will be happy with this one. Eastwood, the company that White brought back from the dead, celebrate the 50th anniversary of there famous Airline model.Mind you, the fact the company probably only operated for what, half that time, is not the point. East was the first, and as far as I know only manufacturer to add rubber as a FEATURE on a guitar. RUBBER!!! Pure genius!

But jokes aside, these guitars have become some of the most collectable and well loved instruments of many players, not just the above mentioned Mr. White.

Here is the press release:

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Airline brand, Eastwood Guitars has released 50 limited edition Metallic Gold Airline ’59 Custom 2P guitars. These individually numbered collector edition models ship in the Deluxe Airline form-fit hardshell case and include a certificate of authenticity personally signed by the founder of Eastwood Guitars, Mike Robinson.

The Gold Airline 2P features a unique rubber binding that surrounds the tone chambered mahogany body. The vintage style of the pinstriped pickguard along and the chrome tone switch are tributes to the original 1959 models. With two ALNICO Hot-10 pickups, vintage tuners and the classic 25 ½ scale this guitar is guaranteed to turn heads. You can also customize this guitar through Eastwood’s custom shop, with a pair of Airline Vintage Voice Single Coil pickups and a Bigsby Tremolo to make it your own.

Me like-y much-y.

Watch for the part where he flicks to the bridge pickup. That is a beautiful honky tone right there!
