Aerosmith guitarist crashes out

Damn, hope he is ok. Perry is one of my favourite guitarists, but lets face it, after all the drugs he has taken, and the fact he is getting on a bit, he surely must be getting pretty brittle.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry was injured in a motor vehicle accident this afternoon in Middleborough, police said.

Perry was transported to Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton following the crash, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m., police said.

He was treated and released from the hospital, which admitted him under his real name of Anthony Perry, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police identified Perry as the operator of a motorcycle that was struck from behind by a sedan on Route 44 eastbound.

The accident occurred near the intersection with Route 105. It was not immediately clear if Perry was driving at the time or stopped in traffic.

The identity and the make of the sedan being operated by the second driver was not immediately available.The incident is under investigation by police.

Police identified Perry, the Aerosmith guitarist, as the victim in the crash.

The few that I have seen have been great, and even if the artist is not someone I am really into, I always learn something new. Sometimes just a different perspective is utterly enlightening.

Grab a cool one, sit back and relax and enjoy an array of pieces ranging from blues, rock, classic, you name it. I LOVE this CD! Great driving tunes and also a good one to listen to when you are entertaining. A must CD to round out any music collection. Awesome!

Great Production and Crankability, Solid CD

Everyone needs a few CDs in their arsenal to use as, "Show Off" recordings for their car audio system or home stereo. This is one of them. The mix, clarity and production of this CD is outstanding. Crank it up!The music is great too. I became a fan of Lee Ritenor after picking up his "Wesbound" CD on which he pays tribute to Wes Montgomery. But make no mistake, this is NOT a smooth jazz recording. It's a mix of blues, jazz, fusion, rock and even classical. There's something here for everyone.I HIGHLY recommend this record!

Outstanding assortment of guitar talent

Thomas Nordegg was Frank Zappa's guitar tech back in the day. Later, he became guitar tech for his son, Dweezil Zappa, and for former guitarist in Frank Zappa's band; Steve Vai! Thomas Nordegg has quite an impressive effects setup, including lots of TC Electronic gear, and a bunch of rather unusual guitars that can pull off some amazing tricks! I think the only thing this guy is missing is an evil minion.

This is by far and away the most insane, mind boggling setup I have ever seen. For some reason though, I can see Matt Bellamy having a lot of fun with this rig.

Jim Root Shows his Fender Tele

I'm a huge Stone Sour fan, and I don't mind Slipknot's third album, so I quite like this video. It's not all that often that a metal player like Jim Root would be seen with a Telecaster (John 5 is another), but it one of his preferred weapons of choice.

I also like what he says about the matte finish. I have one guitar with a matte finish and the wear and tear on it looks awesome.

Speaking of Stone Sour, they have a new album coming out soon, and judging by these studio videos on their YouTube channel, the album is going to be killer.

RUSH documentary on it’s way

Rush is a band I have never really been into. Growing up in working class Newcastle, Australia, you didn't really get exposed to this sort of music. As I've gotten older, as talented as I know all the band members are, I have never really gotten "too them" so to speak.

I think that is about to change.

I love great music doco's, even when it is a band I know nothing about, or even a band I don't like. Musicians have always fascinated me no matter what genre. The trailer for this looks phenomenal. Not only is it following the band today, but appears to have some AMAZING archival footage as well. Considering the minds behind this documentary are by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, the makers of Metal - A Headbanger's Journey and Iron Maiden: Flight 666 - The Film [Blu-ray]
, two fantastic films, I can say that I am really anticipating this to be great.

The Canadian premiere of Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage is at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival on Thursday, April 29 at 9:30 p.m. at the Winter Garden Theatre. It will also screen on Friday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m. at the Isabel Bader Theatre. No word yet on DVD release, but lets hope it is not too far away.

Now I'm off to go get me some RUSH albums. Any suggestions?

Album Review – Slash

DISCLAIMER : Slash is one of my favourite guitarists of all time. I will attempt to remain objective and unbiased in my review of this album.

Nahhhh .. screw it!

There is no denying how much Slash has been an influence on me as a musician and guitarist. So it was with some trepidation that I listened to this album for the first time. With such a wide variety of guest vocalists, I was scared that this would end up quite an in-cohesive collection of tunes with varying stylistic clashes marring the main reason I want the album in the first place, Slash's playing.

Eight bars in and I knew I was in for something special.

The album opens up with an old familiar combination of Izzy Stradlin and Slash, panned hard left/right, letting rip on a song that could have easily been a Guns n' Roses classic. Except it is Ian Astbury from The Cult singing the vocals. The song is a perfect match for his vocal style, a trend that continues through the album over artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Chris Cornell, and the album's stand out performer Myles Kennedy.

The album ranges from great rockers (Ghost - the aforementioned Astbury track being one), some great power ballads (Starlight with Myles Kennedy), even throwing in a haunting acoustic track (Saint Is A Sinner Too with Rocco DeLucia) and and some real heavy stuff (Nothing To Say featuring M. Shadows and some nasty down tuning). No matter how many different styles are on this album, everything still feels like part of a single, cohesive package. Slash's playing still shines through, you know it's him at the core of all these tracks, and that really is a testament to his talent.

A special mention has to go to the UK retail bonus tracks. Mother Maria with Beth Hart is the most moving song on the album by far. The song Sahara with Japanese singer Inaba Koshi recently won single of the year from the Japanese music industry, and the odd combination of Fergie, Cypress Hill and Slash do a rapacious version of Paradise City that I can't stop listening too.

The album is not perfect though. Kid Rock is skippable on his track, as is Iggy Pop (geez I'm going to get shot for that!). Adam Levine has a good song, but not memorable. If you love Slash or Gunners, you'll get this. If you like good rock music with variety, you'll eat this up.

Ace Frehley Behind The Player DVD

I grew up listen to Kiss, and Ace Frehley is one of the reason's I play guitar (hey, I now have something in common with John 5 besides banging porn stars!). I don't know much about the Behind The Player DVD's but the concept looks awesome. A DVD / doco on a great musician, a lesson from them, interviews with artists they influenced (and this one features John 5, Matt Sorum, and George Lynch), plus rare archival footage. It looks like a great package. Think I'll be getting me this one.

For those who don't know, Crossroads is more than a crappy Britney Spears movie. It was also a movie with "The Karate Kid" and Steve Vai as the Devil's axe-slinger.

But above all else, it's a giant celebration of guitar and a fund raiser for Eric Clapton's own rehab facility for ~~exceedingly rich junkies and alcoholics~~ substance abusers to recover, with a world class reputation. 2010 looks crazy good.

This line up is ri-donk-u-lous!!!!! Holy crap Batman. I would donate my liver to an inpatient to get to this gig! I've bolded my highlights for this show.

Fellow Sydney-sider Jon from GuitarNoize got an awesome exclusive with Chimaira guitarist Rob Arnold while he was in Sydney. In this video he runs through his (cut down) Australian road rig, as well as some other insights into his equipment and his LTD signature guitar line.

I've never really listened to these guys, so I'm off to go get me some. Rob comes across really friendly and I can't help but want to listen to the music of someone who I find seems to be a "top bloke"!
