Jon at GuitarNoize has a great video demo of the Electro-Harmoix POG2 Polyphonic Ocatve Generator. This is an insanely versatile octave pedal that I think would be so much fun to play with. It is again up to the typical weird standards of EH and if I had my way I would own every single one of their pedals.

Dwarfs make good fuzz pedals

Either I'm getting dumber of fuzz pedals are sounding better. Never been a fan, never thought I would be, but this thing sounds fantastic. I am especially impressed by how it cleans up when the volume is rolled back. With enough controls on this to get you pretty much any fuzz tone possible, the Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder pedal looks quite fun.

The Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder is in some ways a classic fuzz/distortion pedal, but with some unique tones that set it apart from the pack. Stomp the bypass and you'll get a muffy fuzz that you can tweak with volume, tone, and distortion knobs, or take into Stoner Rock territory with a flick of the Timewarp switch. The Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder 's Toneblast bypasses the tone control, giving you more midrange and more volume for solos, or as a useful contrast from the standard fuzz flavor. A momentary feedback loop can be triggered with the Feedback stomper and tuned with the Tune knob, introducing a little controlled chaos into your chugging riffery. The trim knob is useful for cutting the mud that can result from high output pickups, letting you easily match this pedal to any rig.

I'm not generally a fan of straight out fuzz pedals, but this has some really nice sounds. Seems quite versatile too.

Solid Gold FX Electroman

I don't often get excited by delay pedals, but the Solid Gold Electro man does something a little different. The momentary switch "Warp" drives the pedal into self oscillation, and the sonic possibilities of this are "warping" my mind. The other feature I love is the Tone control, which shapes the tone of the delays from bright and digital like, to dark and analogue (which is my preferred setting on this).

The Solid Gold FX Electroman Delay pedal has 800 milliseconds of delay time and several interesting features that set it apart from the delay pedal pack. First among these is a momentary Warp Switch that sends the Electroman into instant self-oscillation when the Repeats are set above 10 o clock, and acts as a kill switch for the delay signal with Repeats below 10 o clock, letting you sculpt some unusual delay tones. The Solid Gold FX Electroman also features an effects loop for the delay signal, giving you the option to affect your repeats with modulation, pitch shifting, overdrive, or anything else your twisted, black heart desires. The standard controls, including level, repeats, and time, are also included, and a tone knob lets you darken or brighten your delay signal at will.

I want this so bad I’m tremolo-ing in my boots

Tremolo is such an under-rated effect. When people think of tremolo, they usually think of some slow twanging country/western track, or surf music. While that may be true, there is so much you can do with it, as shown in this video.

The Earthquaker Hummingbird is a unique, stuttering tremolo pedal based on the vintage Vox Repeat Percussion, but with some improvements to reduce noise and enhance control. The Earthquaker Hummingbird stands apart from the crowd with a choppy character that lends itself well to machine gun percussion sounds, synth-like pulses, and numerous more subtle tremolo tones. Pair it with a fuzz for some truly mangled interactive textures. Depth, Rate, and Level knobs provide deep control, and a fast/slow switch changes the LFO rate for a ridiculous range of available speeds.

New Ozzy Guitarist Likes Black Fire

One of the things I find annoying about a lot of the current heavy music genre is that so many of the guitar tones sound the same. The tone coming from this pedal is not. Sure it is heavy, crunchy, but to my ears it has a certain X factor that makes it stand out somehow.

Weekend Wonders : Cry Baby Wah

I can certainly attest to how tough these suckers are. I had a full PA stack get knocked over and fall on this thing at a gig. It survived, and is yet to skip a beat some 10 years on. Every guitarist should own a wah, and this is as classic as it gets.

If you're looking for a great wah pedal, look no further. You really don't need all the extra knobs and stuff, this pedal has the sound your looking for. Great clean, distorted, overdriven, just about any sound you put through it will come out with that beautiful Hendrix inspired sound.

Built like a brick

I had the original Cry-Baby back in the '70's and was very happy with it. I recently bought another and was just as pleased. They are still well built units; solid, heavy, killer wah-wahs.

It's All You Really Need

This wah is obviouslly a classic used by many artists over the years. If your just starting out using wah's then this is probaly the one for you its got great tone and sounds fantastic. There are other cry-baby's out there some with more range of tones and somewhat recently the classic wah was released. If you're going for more of a 60's sound wah then this one will do it for you as it has the "Fasel inductor" that was the key to the tone of the 60's wah. For starting out its a great and durable wah.

Is this the best sounding Wah in the world?

This is possibly the BEST sounding wah pedal I have ever heard. It has the exact range and tone that I think of when I hear a wah tone in my head. The mid point growl is absolutely guttural, and I love it. I would have loved to have seen this though set clean in front of a dirty amp as that is my usual set up, but as it is it sounds fantastic.

MXR Phase 45 Re-issue

MXR have just released a re-issue of the fantastic Phase 45 phaser. I have a Phase 90, and the 45 seems to have a little less range to my ears, but that doesn't stop it from being absolutely great pedal.

The MXR Phase 45 is a hand-wired reissue of the rare, classic phaser pedal straight from the MXR Custom Shop. This little brother of the Phase 90 offers subtle, rich, two-stage analog phasing that adds depth and texture without dominating your tone. Operation couldn't be more idiot-proof, with a solitary speed knob being the MXR Phase 45 's only control. The top-shelf componentry includes hand-matches FET's, a Carling switch, a CTS pot, and Switchcraft jacks.

SourceAudio Soundblox Pro Classic Distortion

I've never really been one for multi effects pedals, but I'm thinking twice with this pedal from Source Audio. The Soundblox Pro Classic Distortion contain a bunch of famous distortion types, ranging from Tube Screamer to Octave Fuzz to Mesa to Marshall, beautifully recreated all in one pedal. The above video gives you a quick audio tour of the sounds available, and I think it would be hard to be disappointed.

An interesting feature though is the ability to morph between different settings with an expression pedal. When you hit the mid region of the morph, you are essentially creating a whole new unique sound, and the effect is quite staggering.

And because I am a sucker for making of videos, here is a quick look at the making of and the thought that went into making this pedal.

How much overdrive is enough? The Gain knob can dial in any amount of overdrive from a warm, soft edge to a full-tilt onslaught – the choice is yours. Working in conjunction with the Gain control is the Volume knob. This controls the overall volume level when the Overdrive effect is engaged. And when you still want “more”, the Ice 9 delivers; stomp down on the “More” button and enjoy an additional 14 dB of mix-cutting volume boost!

This device looks like it has been around for a little while, but I got a press release about it the other day for some strange reason. Basically, it's a hands free E-Bow, and despite how Vibesware are marketing this thing, there is huge potential elsewhere.

Small home studio set ups have the one main disadvantage usually of lack of volume. Without the volume it is rather tricky to coax that sexy guitar feedback out of your guitar, even harder if you are using an amp simulator. This could be just the remedy for that.

The Guitar Resonator is a new effect device for electric guitar feedback playing. It agitates one or multiple guitar strings by a magnetic field from a string driver mounted on a stand. It produces any string vibration feedback live on stage, in recording studios, and at home. It gives you powerful and reproducible feedback harmonics at any sound volume, even while playing through headphones.
Unlike the Ebow, it can drive multiple strings and is not hand-held, so normal playing with both hands is possible. It works with every guitar that has steel strings and pickup(s). Even accustic guitars with piezo's can be applied. You don't need to modify your guitar, which is different to the Fernandes Sustainers. It has a strong magnetic field driving the strings because it's powered by an external supply. Feedback harmonics can be controlled by the playing technique and by phase switching. Optionally, harmonic modes can be controlled by a foot controller in a CryBaby-like enclosure.

Pigtronix EP2 Envelop Filter

What a beautiful sound. I love my Phase90, but when this thing has both the envelope filter and phaser engaged I'm in swirly acid induced hallucination freak out heaven. I love this thing!

The Pigtronix EP2 Envelope Phaser is more than just an EP1 in a smaller box. The EP2 has been redesigned in collaboration with Howard Davis to provide the most top-notch envelope based phaser on the planet. The Pigtronix EP2 Envelope Phaser features tons of control, full frequency response, and versatility that is heretofore unmatched in the effects pedal industry. The Sensitivity knob controls the amount of signal needed to open the envelope follower while the Depth knob controls the amount of LFO modulation. The Center knob adjusts where in the audio spectrum the LFO is sweeping.

The Pigtronix EP2 Envelope Phaser features a Blend switch that blends between LFO and EF modulation as well. The usual Speed and Depth controls are present as well as a Resonance control that adjusts the amount of the effected signal that is fed back into the phaser creating deep, swooshing effects. The Pigtronix EP2 Envelope Phaser functions as both an LFO based phase effect as well as an envelope follower and can be switched back and forth with a footswitch.

The EF has switches to choose between up and down waves as well as a Staccato switch that enables the EF to track super fast notes and open on every one. The Pigtronix EP2 Envelope Phaser has more features than a new Lexus but dont let that stop you. There are more sweet sounding effects hidden in this box that you could dream of.

Peter at i heart guitar gets all the fun toys to review. Here he has the new MXR M116 Fullbore Metal and has done a great review.

Apparently these pedals are favoured by the worlds mostest brutals guitarist Skwisgaar Skwigelf (if you don't know who I'm talking about see the second clip below), and judging by this video I can see why. This thing is as subtle as a palette of bricks to the gonads!
