Gibson Dark Fire

Gibson has announced that while some shipments have made it out the warehouse door, fot the majority of dealers, their orders for Dark Fires have been delayed.

If you have been living under a rock, the Dark Fire will be Gibson's self proclaimed "most sought after musical instrument of its time". Someone needs to turn down the hyperbole engine a little.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to look forward to in this guitar. P90 matched with a classic humbucker, piezo pickup with blend control integrated into the pickup toggle, Robot tuning, stunning finish, the list goes on. But I can't help but think that Gibson have their heads stuck on the idea that if the guitar is going to be modern and technological, then it has to have the visual flourishes.

The faux carbon fibre (or is it real?) pickup covers and fret markers are atrocious. To me they are the single flaw with this guitar visually. And also the mentality of Gibson to make something "limited" and increasing it's perceived value by artificially limiting the run is total bullshit. If they want this guitar to be the future of the instrument then surely you would make it available to as many potential players as possible.

One day Gibson may wake up to themselves and develop some common sense. Then again, as history has shown from Gibson, maybe not.

to be honest, i like the faux carbon pickups

I guess I look at it like this: if you took them away would the guitar look worse? I think it would not, and that makes them a superfluous addition that add nothing to the appearance of the guitar.

But that’s just me. I have a distinct feeling I’m the minority on this one :-)

For that price…no but maybe at 2k or under as long as all the flaws are worked out. I heard it’s still like a prototype and for 3.5k I say no thanks Gibson. Nice try though

At least it’s an improvment on the Robot!
