Billie Joe Armstrong Signature Gibson Les Paul Jr

I give Billie Joe a lot of credit. After being the father of the horrendous pop punk scene, he reinvigorated Green Day within the modern punk rock scene with fantastic songwriting and and fantastic melodic sensability. On top of that, he redefined his sound with the awesom Les Paul Jr, a guitar I always considered a "wannabe" until very recently. The main factor of my Jr. hate is now the thing I love most - the P90 pickups.

The P90 just has a perfect open sound that Billie Joe (or whoever wrote the press release) explains better than I ever could:

... can reproduce the punch of power chords and the power of big open chords with perfect string definition

It's the same sound that had me grinning ear to ear the first time I pluggd my PRS SE with P90 style soapbars into my Marshall. The tone has the aggro to rip your face off but you can still hear every single string. The guitar tone on American Idiot was fantastic, and I'm glad that the guitar is priced out of the range of a typical teeny punker because quite simply they don't deserve it.

You don't like that comment well I don't care. Go cry to mummy. It's my blog and I'll be an obnoxious twat if I want to.

Green Day
